So I’ve been quiet on the blog radar due to heavy work load, wedding load, etc… lots of loads, but all good ones can’t complain.  Anywhoo had to share my current hair regimen that I’m thnking of keeping from now on.  I’m following the curly girl method and I’m loving it!  Brought the book, no shampoo only cowashing!!! The curls are poppin’ effortlessly due to the much needed moisture cowashing is giving me.

My Regimen:

  1. Coat hair in silicone free condish and let sit as I prepare for a shower
  2. Next, water rinse and lightly massage scalp to rid hair of build up or residue
  3. Apply an oldie but goodie fav leave-in generously: Knot Today Kinky Curly
  4. In sections apply two layers of styling products: Shea Moisture Curl Souffle & Eco Styler Gel Olive Oil.

Voila,  thats it- soft moisturized coily curls no flaking, nor crunch !!!

Until Next Time,

Update…It’s Been A Hot Minute!!!

It’s been a minute….Here goes the update

  • I had a bday!!!! I turned the big 3-0 on March 3!!!! It was great!!!  At first I wanted a big bash, but opted to celebrate intimately the entire month with close fam and friends and indulge in a few bday gifts pour moi!!!! I will share all the bday goods in future posts!!! Let’s just say I made a few new additions to the wardrobe that are Dirty 30 Worthy!!!
  • I got my hair straightened for my bday and I’ve rocked it now for three weeks!!! Not bad for a blow dry and flat iron.  At week three I started experiencing some frizz, and didn’t want to manipulate my hair with heat and I’m a little too lazy to wash it.   So last night I experimented with a flexi-rod set and loving it!!!  I used a dab of Jane Carter Wrap and Roll and medium size flexi rods-the orange, blue and red ones, and a thin yellow and green in the front.  I let the set take over night, and woke up to a halo full of banana curl riglets.  I separated my curls with Jane Carter Nourish and Shine and Ta Da! Tonight I’m hair netting and bonnetting it, we’ll see how it holds up!  My game plan is to flexi rod until my next salon visit for a trim, blow dry and flat iron!!!
  • Lastly, wedding planning and coordinating is in full effect.  Dieting, venue searching, and piecing together the guest list.

Anywho, it’s getting late! Another flexi rod pic below!

Until Next Time,

Holiday Knitting Gift Projects long overdue for posting.   They’ve all been shipped to their rightful owners by this point, but just wanted to share what I call the:

“CandidlyCan Love Knot Bow”

My headbands were inspired by the Emmadime Jinger Bow I posted about on November 10th, 2011.

My good friend Alex loved it so much, that she sent a pic wearing hers with her beautiful new baby girl, Addison!!!  This was my first big completed knitting project after teaching myself from online tutorials the basic garter stitch.

Enjoy. Online shop & Video Tutorials coming soon by request!

Until Next Time,

Curly Halo Approved #3: Lacio, Lacio

Ok, so I tried a new condish and I liked it….It’s called Lacio LacioIts a Dominican conditioner I stumbled upon on Curly Nikki, but hadn’t given much thought too, mostly because I knew it was silicone laden.  See I’m a CG method girl, and its’ worked for me since my big chop days.  My leave-in of choice has been my tried and true “Kinky Curly Knot Today”-completely silicone free!!!!  I usually tell myself, “Your regimen isn’t broken, so why fix it”.

Yet despite my silicone apprehension, last weekend that all changed for me, after taking a quick dip into a beauty supply with my Mom.  I walked the aisles of the Jamaica Ave. beauty supply in Queens, and spotted the white and green bottle of Lacio Lacio on the shelf. I snatched up a bottle, washed my hair, applied the leave-in and the rest is history.  My hair loved this stuff!  Not really sure why, especially since its silicone based, but to my surprise its a winner!

Top 5 Things A Curly Halo should know about Lacio Lacio:

1. Lacio Lacio means “straight, straight”, but curlies can still use this leave-in for twists out, and other natural curly hair styling.

2. A little bit goes a long way.  You don’t need much Lacio Lacio to experience the softening effects of the condish which aids in detangling.

3. A staple-for me yes, but in moderation.  As I’ve said before I’m a CG method girl, and I do believe once I replenish my Kinky Curly Knot Today supply Lacio Lacio will become my trusty back up despite my positive experience.  Just leery about silicones. I’m thinking it will be a great leave -in for those far and few times I flat-iron and roller set my hair!

4. Lacio Lacio leaves you with soft, and bouncy twists-outs without feeling product laden.

5.  At first the scent may be strong to some, but the latter effect is refreshing.  Three of my students told me my hair smelled great + my fiancee.

So give Lacio, Lacio a whirl!  It never hurts to try something new at least once! You might find something new that you like!

Happy Curly Halos,

-CandidlyCan

P.S. Excuse the photo long week, in much need of sleep!!! Lol!

Join the Dialogue…

Despite the frigid cold, I made the trek to the premiere of Dark Girls  last night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem with a few friends, and I’m so happy I did!!!

The documentary explored the national and global impact of “colorism” and initiates both dialogue and healing.

Join the dialogue. View the film at a theater near year. Share, support  & join in the healing process! Check out the trailer here. or below in the CandidlyCan archives for Jan. 4th 2012!!!
